Do you fancy a delightful relaxed holiday in South France, and would you like to sleep in one of the five beautiful rooms of a lovely and stately 'maison de maître' or in one of the two charming gîtes? Then you are at the right place with us! In the village of Riols, located in the provincial nature park 'Haut-Languedoc', our charming guesthouse 'La Cerisaie' (i.e., the cherry orchard) is situated. It is a manor house from 1869 surrounded by a beautiful garden with many flowers and plants, benches, lounge chairs and two hammocks. A nice swimming pool of 10 by 5 metres, surrounded by hardwood chair decks for relaxing, makes the whole a wonderful place.

La Cerisaie exudes the atmosphere of the past, combined with modern comfort. The house is elegant, full of charm and is filled with authentic elements such as old wooden floors, marble stairs and doors and windows with cut glass. The house has five comfortable rooms and a studio for those who also wish to have a kitchen/kitchenette. Behind the maison, in the old coach house, there are two gîtes: one for two and one for four people. All rooms and gîtes have their own bathroom, and the beds are wonderfully soft and cooling with Egyptian percale cotton.

On the ground floor of the maison we have a common living room with a (swap) library and games, a dining room (with a large oval table) for when the weather is bad and where up to twelve people can dine, and the breakfast room, where we can also eat with more guests. In this breakfast room there is also a piano, which you can play at heart's leisure.

In general we cook a three-course menu on Saturday, Monday and Thursday evenings, which we serve on long tables outside on the terrace, or indoors if the weather is bad. On other days (except Tuesday) you can order a cheese and/or charcuterie board. 

In the surroundings there is everything to experience: you can hike, cycle, swim in the lakes or the little river Jaur, visit wine estates or go to nice villages such as Olargues, Minerve or Roquebrun and for example visit the weekly market there.

La Cerisaie welcomes guests aged sixteen and over during the off-season and pre-season. In July & August families with children aged twelve and over are welcome in the gîtes. Dogs are (subject to agreement) welcome in the gîtes, at a cost of €5.00 per day. After all, Teun, our cat, lives at La Cerisaie. Teun has been taking French lessons for a while to make friends with the neighborhood cats :).

 

On Tuesdays we are closed; generally you cannot check in then. If you would still like to, please call/email us to see if a possibility exists.  La Cerisaie will be open in 2025 from 19 April to 29 September.

PS 1: For the creatives we offer on 17, 18 & 19 September a painting and sculpting workshop led by Lisette Meijrink and Katrin Kleinau.  Additionally, our guests can join a two-day workshop 'portrait' or 'landscape painting', given by  Els Knockaert.  There is also a bike, walking or motorbike arrangement from La Cerisaie for guests who want to explore the surroundings thoroughly.
